G5 laser DOA?

I purchased a G5 and installed it. The buttons all work fine, however, there is absolutely zero tracking movement. I've tried multiple USB ports, multiple computers, and a variety of non-reflective, non-transparent surfaces. Not even bumpy or erratic movement - no movement at all. I saw one thread about how a spec of dust on the laser might contribute to a problem like this, and tried blowing out the laser pickup chamber, even though this was a new "right-out-of-the-box" mouse. No change.
So, has anyone else seen something like this, and/or are aware of any other factors that could result in this issue? I called Logitech and they won't replace it. Yes, I bought it new (was still in the factory-sealed box), but I made the mistake of buying it from another individual via eBay, so nada on the warranty service per Logitech. I'm very bummed.... was really looking forward to using this mouse as an upgrade to my MS mouse, but unless anyone has some ideas, looks like I'm "caput". Caveat emptor....

I bought mine at Fry's and lucky me I have the same problem. Everything but the laser works, right out of the box. I feel cheated. Logitech should pay me the money it'll take to get gas to go on an hour and a half drive to Fry's ;P.
At least I have a sucky back-up one.

Man, I just bought a G5 Laser this afternoon and there's no laser. I mean it can still be recognised and the buttons still work but there's no laser to move the cursor about. I even tried different PCs and still doesn't fix it.

Hi ni9ht5ta1k3r
,
The laser on the mouse is actually very hard to see with the naked eye. If the mouse is tracking movement properly, there's no problem with yout mouse. If it's not tracking properly, please e-mail Customer Support for assistance.

It kinda sounds like a couple of other people that purchased new G5s at about the same time had the same problem with a dead laser on arrival. Was there a bad batch of G5s shipped? If so, is there anything I can know to identify a member of that bad batch (range of serial numbers? lot numbers? etc.?) if I choose to buy again? Thanks,
Jeff

Hi
,
Haven't heard of a bad batch of G5s so far. In any case of the lser being dead out of the box, it will always be eligible for warranty replacement.

Hmm... but as I described in my original post, Logitech customer service denied me any replacement because, although I bought it new in box, I didn't buy it from a retailer. The only option Logitech gave me was to pay to ship it back to the seller and hope he gave me my money back. The seller has arranged to get another new G5 and has offered it to me at the original price (plus shipping again), but I'm skittish about it because I'm wondering if there was a bad batch of G5s. But it sounds like the odds are pretty remote about getting another DOA G5, so I might just take the chance...

Thanks for your continued interest in this issue. I bought it from an individual off of eBay, and according to Logitech telephone support, that made me an unsupported customer, even though I bought a new, sealed in box mouse. There is nothing the telephone support person would do for me. I have since paid to return it to him, and he has gotten a new mouse, tested it, and I paid him yet again to send it to me. It just arrived this evening, so hopefully I'll finally have a functional G5. It's just a shame that my $34 purchase plus $5 shipping has turned into a $34 purchase with $27 shipping because I couldn't work this out directly with Logitech.
